The ten years between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones are full of potential stories, and Queen's Shadow is no exception。 This novel depicts Padmé's transition from Queen of Naboo to its Senator and Sabé's transition from decoy to agent。 Both young women learn how to embrace their new roles and missions, and their steadfast friendship is very moving to see。 There's not much more I can say without spoiling the plot, but suffice it to say that Clone Wars fans will find much to enjoy in The ten years between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones are full of potential stories, and Queen's Shadow is no exception。 This novel depicts Padmé's transition from Queen of Naboo to its Senator and Sabé's transition from decoy to agent。 Both young women learn how to embrace their new roles and missions, and their steadfast friendship is very moving to see。 There's not much more I can say without spoiling the plot, but suffice it to say that Clone Wars fans will find much to enjoy in this book。Some housekeeping items: I started this book before listening to the prequel and then jumping back into this one。 I don't think it matters in which order you read them。 Also, I read half of it as an ebook and listened to the back half on audiobook, both of which were delightful。 The audiobook version of Queen's Shadow, like its prequel, is also narrated by Catherine Taber (the voice actress for Padmé in The Clone Wars) and has wonderful Star Wars scoring and sound effects。 。。。more

I enjoyed getting this glimpse into Padmes life but I just wasn't interested know the story。 I wish there was some sort of threat or long running thread that ran through her early time as a senator but I couldn't figure one out。 I enjoyed getting this glimpse into Padmes life but I just wasn't interested know the story。 I wish there was some sort of threat or long running thread that ran through her early time as a senator but I couldn't figure one out。 。。。more

So dry。 So unmitigatedly dry。 If you enjoyed The Phantom Menace, especially the parts about trade routes, taxation, and talk, talk, talk, then you may get something from this book。 If you're looking for action and adventure, good versus evil (ya know, Star Wars), then I'm going to warn you right now to stay away from Disney。 They have absolutely no idea what they're doing。 So dry。 So unmitigatedly dry。 If you enjoyed The Phantom Menace, especially the parts about trade routes, taxation, and talk, talk, talk, then you may get something from this book。 If you're looking for action and adventure, good versus evil (ya know, Star Wars), then I'm going to warn you right now to stay away from Disney。 They have absolutely no idea what they're doing。 。。。more

If you want history and culture of Naboo then this is the book for you。 If you want action and Jedi you won’t find it here。 This is strictly a back drop of Padme becoming a Senator and trying to help people in need, the last chapter and Epilogue serve as the most interesting parts for me。 I don’t think E。k。 Johnston does a good job with timeline work as the epilogue seems to be years later than the book itself。

3。5 stars - I am so happy to be with Padme, who is a character I feel like the canon does not focus on enough! (Did I dress up as Padme Amidala several times in my youth? (view spoiler)[ Also I have a GRIPE to pick with Miss Johnston。 To end the book with Padme's funeral?????? Are you kidding me mam???????? WHY (hide spoiler)] 。。。more

What I really enjoyed about this book was seeing Padme figure out her place in the galaxy through politics。 Once her term is up for Queen of Naboo, Padme's handmaidens have already figured out what they want to do with their lives whether it be fostering children, helping the elderly, moving off-world, or even becoming a part of the Galactic Republic。 While Padme struggles to figure out where her path will take her。 Until the new queen of Naboo appoints her as a senator。 She is quickly thrust in What I really enjoyed about this book was seeing Padme figure out her place in the galaxy through politics。 Once her term is up for Queen of Naboo, Padme's handmaidens have already figured out what they want to do with their lives whether it be fostering children, helping the elderly, moving off-world, or even becoming a part of the Galactic Republic。 While Padme struggles to figure out where her path will take her。 Until the new queen of Naboo appoints her as a senator。 She is quickly thrust into a world of politics and deception as she struggles to now be heard in a world that refuses to listen。 I loved seeing a pre-clone wars Padme。 She has so much to offer the world and you can really see her fight for everyone's rights。 Her relationships with her handmaidens are phenomenal, especially Sabe。 I want to see where Sabe's journey will take her now that we got that epilogue。 I wish we had a more flushed out part five but now we know the events that lead up to Attack of the Clones, with someone wanting to kill her。 I HATE FREAKING CLOVIS。 He was annoying but Padme thought so too。 Overall, I give this book a 4。25/5 and I highly recommend for any clone wars fan! 。。。more

Padmé is amazing, and I genuinely enjoyed learning about her initial relationships with important characters like Bail Organa (and Breha, who is incredible)。 Reading this already knowing the future of The Clone Wars and the fall of the Republic really makes the tiny moments that suggest what is to come particularly fun。 I wanted more Sabé in this one, but overall, I very much enjoyed the political machinations and small moments like R2 being perfect or Depa Billaba making an appearance。

Queen's Shadow isn't like a lot of Star Wars books as you would expect。 Typically, going into a book you expect at the very least some blaster fights and epic space battles and possibly some Jedi swinging their lightsabers around。 This was not it。。 granted their was a brief space battle towards the end that included a Jedi joining the fight。 No lightsaber。 And when I say brief I mean brief。I don't mean any of this as a complaint as this author went and viewed this era from a different perspectiv Queen's Shadow isn't like a lot of Star Wars books as you would expect。 Typically, going into a book you expect at the very least some blaster fights and epic space battles and possibly some Jedi swinging their lightsabers around。 This was not it。。 granted their was a brief space battle towards the end that included a Jedi joining the fight。 No lightsaber。 And when I say brief I mean brief。I don't mean any of this as a complaint as this author went and viewed this era from a different perspective- Padame and occasionally her hand maiden's perspectives。 This story takes place between the first and second of the prequel movies and details her transition from Queen of Naboo to senator and how it effected those around her。 This story isn't about action but about the politics and the games that surround it (which actually mirror a lot from our real world)。 It was very interesting and I feel it is awesome to have a look at her struggles and victories as she established herself as a part of the senate。 We also see how she creates some of the alliances that will later become pivotal in the ongoing story during the Skywalker era。The only quibble that I find that I have about the book is that they seemed to had gave up and threw away Sabe's quest to fight against slavery on Tatooine and attempt to locate Shmi Skywalker。 I understand that she can't "solve" slavery on Tatooine nor find anything about Shmi as that will contradict with the movies that it all branches on but I feel they nonetheless missed an awesome story line there。 I personally wouldn't mind if they picked it up in another novel but I don't expect that to ever happen。 The abrupt end of that story is the only reason I didn't give this a five star。In spite of what I said above, the story was very well written and I feel that the author captured the personalities of the characters splendidly。 I also listened to it on audiobook and the voice actress was awesome and kept me interested。 This book may not be for everyone if they are looking for a specific "flavor" of Star Wars but if you can set your typical expectations aside, this is an excellent book and gives a great insight during a period that was greatly overlooked。 。。。more

In Queen's Shadow we follow Queen Amidala as she steps down as elected monarch and is thrust into the role of Senator by the new Queen of Naboo。 The change is a lot especially for Padme's handmaidens who often step into her shoes if needed。 This follows Padme and Sabe, played by Kiera Knightly in the movie, as they begin to traverse this new landscape。 Now no longer the handmaiden to the Queen but as her friend, she begins to figure out what she wants to do with her life and who she is。 Padme is In Queen's Shadow we follow Queen Amidala as she steps down as elected monarch and is thrust into the role of Senator by the new Queen of Naboo。 The change is a lot especially for Padme's handmaidens who often step into her shoes if needed。 This follows Padme and Sabe, played by Kiera Knightly in the movie, as they begin to traverse this new landscape。 Now no longer the handmaiden to the Queen but as her friend, she begins to figure out what she wants to do with her life and who she is。 Padme is one of my favorite Star Wars characters of the Prequel Trilogy and it was really interesting to see her role expanded and the time between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones as she hands Naboo on to the next Queen。 We got to see each of her handmaidens and their own personalities, but it did focus a little more on Sabe。There are so many familiar faces in the book from Chancellor Palpatine and Senator Bail Organa along with a number of potentially new characters that I didn't recognize。 There's a lot of talk of the Trade Federation and the trial of Nute Gunray。I will say that this book is focused more on the politics side of Star Wars since Padme is a Senator, with a small sub plot follow Sabe。 It does move a little slow at times and might be a little dry but it does offer some insight into democracy in general and how many deals are struck out of sight and there are clear lines drawn in the sand on the senate floor。I can't wait to read more about Padme and follow Sabe's character after the events of the book。 I gotta say this is probably the second time that a Star Wars book has made me cry。 It was really enjoyable and filled in a much needed backstory。 。。。more
